How to Play Futoshiki

Our Futoshiki play board consists of a 5 x 5 grid. One or more of the answers may be filled in at the start, you must fill in the rest. There are constraints on the board to give you clues about the correct number placements. Each Futoshiki puzzle has only one correct answer.

1 Every row and colum must contain the numbers 1 through 5. No row or column can have the same number twice.

Right:
Wrong:
These numbers are distributed properly.

This is wrong because column one contains the number 1 twice and row two contains the number 5 twice.

2 In a Futoshiki puzzle the "greater than" and "less than" signs on the board must be obeyed.

Right:
Wrong:
These numbers follow the signs properly.

This is wrong because in row one 3 is not less than 2 and in column five 4 is not less than 1.

A is pointing to the three "Pencil Mark" boxes, every square has them. If you are able to narrow down the possible choices in a box to two or three numbers you can use the pencil mark boxes to keep track of them. A click in one of these boxes when it is blank will cause a 1 to appear. Subsequnt clicks will cause the box to increase up to 5 and then blank again.

B is pointing to the main entry box. A click in one of these boxes when it is blank will cause a 1 to appear. Subsequnt clicks will cause the box to increase up to 5 and then blank again.

C is pointing to the hint box. A double-click in this box will cause the correct answer to appear or dissapear.

D Clicking [New Puzzle] will load a new puzzle. Your current puzzle will be lost.

E This will cause all pencil marks to dissapear (see section A).

F This will remove the answers you have entered into every main entry box (see section B).

G This hides all hints you have made visible (see section C).

H When you have finished the puzzle click [Check My Solution] to see how you did. Any incorrect answers will turn red.
